Volunteers from across Baltimore will engage in hands-on volunteer projects and inspiring educational opportunities that will impact our beloved community not just on this holiday, but year-round.

Volunteer at this signature community event or at sites throughout Baltimore including soup kitchens, shelters, senior facilities and beautification projects.

MLK Day Celebration at The Lewis


Celebrate the legacy of Dr. King at the Lewis Museum on Monday, January 20. Open from 11am – 4pm, the day will include presentations and discussions, a story hour and mural art project and a beautiful selection from the Baltimore City College Choir. Tickets are $5. To purchase, click here.

Braving the Cold, Crowds Pack MLK Boulevard for a Parade Honoring Dr. King’s Legacy

Dozens of Baltimore nonprofits, school marching bands, black Greek organizations and others paid no heed to an unforgiving chill in the air on Monday as they marched proudly down Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard in Baltimore.

After Days of Complaints and a Petition, Pugh Resurrects the MLK Day Parade

The bands, dancers, color guards and countless other performers in Baltimore’s annual Martin Luther King Jr. Day Parade will be back for an 18th year after all.

‘Day of Service,’ but No Parade, Planned for MLK Day in 2018

In place of a parade next month with dozens of bands, dancers, marchers and other fanfare celebrating Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.’s legacy, Mayor Catherine Pugh’s administration has planned a day of volunteering officially titled the “Day of Service.”

Honor MLK Day at AVAM



catch of the day fish (2)If you haven’t already seen Selma, perhaps that is the most appropriate way to spend (at least part of) this coming Monday. But if you have already seen it, or if you’re looking to fill the rest of your Martin Luther King Day, you may want to stop by AVAM for a day of free admission and educational programming, along with fabulous performances by Keur Khaleyi African Dance Company and Abu The Flute Maker. The museum will host special workshops throughout the day, and is even offering packets for educators to help inspire and guide the next generation of visionaries.
