After taking on profanity on the boardwalk, Ocean City is considering banning smoking on the beach. I can’t blame them. A beach full of cigarette butts is a major bummer. But Mayor Rick Meehan says the issue is a divisive one, despite people being “for the most part” in favor of a ban. Meehan said he wants “to be fair to everybody and allow areas for smokers.”

If the First Amendment didn’t prevent Ocean City, Md., from banning profanity in public places, you better believe they would have done it! Instead, the city council has voted to post cute signs along the boardwalk requesting “No Profanity Please” in time for summer. Hopefully, all us foul-mouthed Baltimoreans will take heed!

Councilwoman Mary Knight who proposed the signs implied to the Baltimore Sun that the signs are aimed primarily at “future leaders of America, or, in other words, recent high school graduates,” but they’re not the only ones. She cited Sandra Bullock’s slightly profane acceptance speech at the Critics’ Choice Movie Awards, um, as an example of… um a non-recent high school grad swearing?
