Kevin Clash, Ex-Elmo, Gets an Emmy Nod Despite Sex Scandal



The Emmy nomination announcement must’ve been bittersweet news for Kevin Clash, who received a “best performer in a children’s series” nod for his role as Elmo on Sesame Street — a job he left back in November after numerous allegations of sex with minors. (Clash is a native Baltimorean and attended Towson University.)

Just a few days ago, a young man accused Kevin Clash, the voice of Elmo (and a native Baltimorean who graduated from Towson), of having an inappropriate sexual relationship with him. Clash denied the charges and Sesame Street defended him, saying that an investigation determined that the charges were “unsubstantiated.” Now we’re happy to report that the accuser has dropped the charges against Clash.

Kevin Clash, the Baltimore native and Towson grad who provides the voice for the most beloved/detested Sesame Street character (Elmo!), is taking a leave of absence from the PBS show after denying an inappropriate relationship with a teenager.
