Baltimore has community-based skillshare programs that will teach you how to fix your bike and how to mix a cocktail, but if you’re in more of an aspiring toolhead or welding wannabe listen up: we’ve found the place of your dreams.
As far as I can tell, the Baltimore Foundery is the first spot in the city to unite community education with badass industrial grade tools. So if you’ve ever wanted to learn how to use an arc welder or bench grinder, now’s your chance.
The Foundery is located between Fells Point and Harbor East, in the former Kavanaugh building. It opened its doors on July 1 with the goal of “[providing] access to industrial grade tools and education…[and] sparking innovation within the Baltimore community.” So far, the space is open to members on certain evenings for “open welding” or “project night,” and the group’s first “Welding 101” class is set for next Wednesday. The space’s list of available tools is extensive:
