Gather the family for a unique fall festival experience filled with costumed performers, handmade crafts, entertainment and theatrics, all taking place in a historical period.
The 46th annual Maryland Renaissance Festival kicked off this weekend and will run through Oct. 23 on Saturdays and Sundays in Crownsville.
The 27-acre “Village of Revel Grove” welcomes families from all over the world to enjoy 10 stages with over 200 performers, a 3,000-seat arena with “armored jousting on steeds and streets filled with village characters.”
The nine-weekend event will highlight the year 1536, King Henry VIII, the story of his reign, and his six wives.
The festival’s entertainment will include a one-woman stunt show, jugglers, sword fighters, magicians, musicians, and a jousting troupe with horses, chariots, and trick riding.
The festival will also feature 140 crafters who will display and sell their own handmade art and wares, showcasing “metal work, wood sculpture, jewelry, furniture, clothing, footwear, ceramics, stained glass, headwear, and glassblowing.”
Throughout the village, attendees can look forward to visiting 42 different food shops offering “smoked turkey legs, steak on a stake, fresh crepes, stuffed chili peppers, gyros, succulent ribs, a fresh seafood raw bar, sweet concoctions, chicken, fish, crab, beef, pork” and more.
From Aug. 27 to Sept. 11, ticket prices are reduced to kick off the event. Beginning Sept. 17 through Oct. 23, peak season prices will take place. For tickets, schedules or more information visit www.MarylandRenaissanceFestival.com.
