Madcap Cottage Designs, featured at the new Calico Corners in Lutherville

For more than 65 years, Calico Corners has had the enviable job of making homes across America more beautiful. Growing from a modest “designer seconds” fabric store in Bedford Village, N.Y., in 1948 to a national chain with more than 75 home decorating stores, Calico has established itself as a go-to retail source for decorative fabrics once only sold through designers. It’s also expanded to offer design services for home decorating, including window treatments, custom upholstery, furniture and more.

This month, a new branch of Calico Corners opened for business in Lutherville.

“In today’s world of mass similarity,” professes the shop’s website, “home is the place to express your unique style, show your personality and live among the things you love.” So long as the things you love are covered in designer fabrics, Calico Corners can help you to realize that home.

With more than 7,000 high-end fabrics to choose from, and free in-home design services from professional design consultants, Calico Corers is a versatile home-decorating option. The company’s retail model for selling fabric yardage allows homeowners a chance to buy fabric at lower prices than through a decorator, and the flexibility of working with consultants on only the aspects of a project that require help.

Calico Corners also collaborates with established interior designers on lines and collections. The Lutherville shop held their grand opening party in early may, featuring successful New York design duo Madcap Cottage, who debuted their newest travel-inspired collection with Calico Corners this spring.

Madcap joins a smattering of other respected designers (Kate Spade, Dwell Studio and Ralph Lauren, to name a few) to make up an entire “designer fabric” section of the shop. Other collections include performance fabrics, customer favorites and a selection of clearance fabrics for those projects on a budget.

Calico Corners is located at 1544 York Road in Lutherville-Timonium. Store hours are Monday – Saturday, 10 a.m.-5 p.m. Visit the website for more info.
