The Walters Art Museum celebrates a year of transformation at its annual Gala & Party, a memorable event on Saturday, October 13 from 6 p.m. to midnight that will be unlike any other in Baltimore.
This year’s theme, Metamorphosis, unites depictions of growth and renewal in the Walters’ collection with the fashion of today and commemorates the exciting events of 2018, including the opening of 1 West Mount Vernon Place.
Guests at the Gala & Party start the evening with a cocktail reception at 6 p.m. on the Sculpture Court, followed by a three-course gourmet dinner served in the galleries.
At the party, which begins at 9 p.m., guests enjoy an open bar, light fare and desserts, and dancing on the Sculpture Court.
The Walters Party is hosted by The Walters Enthusiasts (WE), a group of young leaders who are passionate about art and committed to supporting the Walters through philanthropy, volunteerism, and special fundraising events.
The Gala & Party provides major funding for the Walters’ education and exhibition programming and supports free admission for all. Every year, the Walters benefits over 148,000 people, including over 75,000 visitors who participate in education programs and 38,000 PreK–12 students and teachers.
The Walters Art Museum is a cultural hub in the heart of Baltimore, located in the city’s Mount Vernon neighborhood. The museum’s collection spans more than seven millennia, from 5000 BCE to the 21st century, and encompasses 36,000 objects from around the world. Walking through the museum’s historic buildings, visitors encounter a stunning panorama of thousands of years of art, from romantic 19th-century images of French gardens to mesmerizing Ethiopian icons, richly illuminated Qur’ans and Gospel books, ancient Roman sarcophagi, and serene images of the Buddha. Since its founding, the Walters’ mission has been to bring art and people together to create a place where people of every background can be touched by art. As part of this commitment, admission to the museum and special exhibitions is always free.
