A rescued raven from the wild has found a new home at the Irvine Nature Center in Owings Mills.

The raven — a Corvus Corax — fractured its left wing and damaged its feathers. But when its injuries healed after care, it was left with a massive callous, preventing the raven from flight and survival in the wild.

Now, the raven will permanently live at Irvine — a non-profit environmental education organization — where it will receive care and reside with other rescued birds. It will also serve as a teaching tool to educate people about the impact they can have on native animal species.

The raven is capable of solving puzzles, stashes food in various places, and already recognizes its new handlers by sight and sound.

Irvine is looking for the public’s help in naming the intelligent raven and fundraising for its care.

Anyone who votes for a name or donates to the nature center before July 15 will be entered to win tickets to an upcoming Baltimore Ravens preseason game.

Names under consideration include Blitz, Echo, Onyx, and Somer.

  3. Remember the days when “Willie Don” Schaefer was Mayor. TRASH BALL on the trash cans. BALTIMORE – THE CITY THAT READS on the bust stop benches.
    And the white on black bumper stickers that simply said BELIEVE (Baltimore was worth something?) Someone had white on black bumper stickers, apparently in answer to BELIEVE that said PRETEND.
    I say name this new raven PRETEND.
    Pretend that the people in command of Baltimore and their developer pals give a rats a** about the average citizen.?
