With the new fiscal year on July 1, a host of new laws are officially in place. Just in time for Fourth of July weekend, some of them involve driving.

Tolls on the Bay Bridge are going down by $2. Drivers can also save in Baltimore’s tunnels if they have EZ Pass. Gov. Larry Hogan called the move a tax cut, and the move squares with the pro-road agenda that lead to his burial of the Red Line last week.

But some mixed messages managed to get on the books, as another car cost is going up. Maryland’s gas tax is set to rise from two percent to three percent with the new fiscal year. The Free state is one of six to raise the gas tax..
