TEACHING THE MIND TO MISBEHAVE
A Conversation with Newbery Medal-Winning Park School Librarian Laura Amy Schlitz and New York Times Bestselling Author Adam Gidwitz (Park School Class of 2000)
Sunday, December 6, 2–4 p.m.
Location: The Park School of Baltimore’s Meyerhoff Theater
2425 Old Court Road, Baltimore 21208
Experience Park’s rich literary tradition. Writers and friends, Park librarian Laura Amy Schlitz and Park alumnus Adam Gidwitz ’00, hold a conversation about their creative processes and their latest books. As a librarian at The Park School, Laura told stories to Adam, who remembers being transfixed. When he became a teacher, Adam started telling stories to his students, and then both librarian and student used what they learned from children to create their written works.
The Hired Girl, published in 2015, is Laura’s seventh children’s book, and takes its place among her other highly acclaimed titles in the Candlewick catalog. Adam’s latest book, The Empire Strikes Back: So you Want to Be a Jedi? is his retelling of the iconic Star Wars film. Published this fall, this is Adam’s fourth children’s book.
FREE and Open to the Public • Seating is limited!
Book sales, signing, and refreshments following the discussion
