Our most popular read this week was actually from April 2016, but who’s counting? Given the recent national tensions stemming from the deadly, hate-fueled violence in Charlottesville, Va., on Aug. 12, we decided to re-publish Rachel Monroe’s post, “The Ku Klux Klan Is Apparently Still Alive and Well in Maryland.” It’s true: the KKK is still very much alive. And as Rachel noted, Maryland has two active chapters in Rosedale and Annapolis.

While the hate group’s numbers have dwindled in recent years, there are still thousands of Klan members scattered across the country. As shown in Charlottesville and resulting protests elsewhere, America’s racist, neo-Confederate underbelly is nothing to scoff at. Now if we can just pick leaders who will single out the right bad guys

For your reference, here’s some more recent info on the number of other hate groups across the state.
