2105 Erdman Avenue, Lake Montebello, Baltimore

Hot House:  Iconic mid-century modern 2 bed, 1.5 bath, 1,100 square foot house on the shores of Lake Montebello. Asking price: $239,000 (bids due on Thursday at noon)

What: Set just east of Lake Montebello in the Mayfield neighborhood, this iconic mid-century modern house has just come on the market again for only the third time since it was built in 1947. It was designed by the original owner, Benjamin Eisenberg, who took his inspiration from the Art Deco architecture and pastel colors of Miami Beach.

Although the couple who currently live in this house love it, one has to relocate for work, so with heavy hearts, they have put it on the market, with a super speedy turn-around. It went on the market on March 1 and sealed bids for the house are due to the realtor by noon on Thursday, March 4. Showings are by appointment and there is a brokers’ open house tomorrow, Wednesday, March 3.

All of the photos are from the original listing in 2017, and as I understand, not much except for the furniture has changed since then. The 1,100 square foot house is filled with bright colors, including an aqua living room; bathroom in black, pink and blue; pastel kitchen in yellow, pink and green; and the master bedroom in teal. Some of the current furnishings will be included in the sale because they are site-specific. The kitchen features a built-in, all-in-one, stainless-steel counter, sink and stove-top, dating from the 1950s.

The grounds of the house are lightly wooded with an open front and a shaded terrace in the rear of the house. From the front of the house, and the master bedroom, you can see Lake Montebello, a beautiful urban oasis.

Where: Mayfield spans both sides of Harford Road, just above 33rd Street and Clifton Park. The centerpiece of the neighborhood is Lake Montebello, part of the city’s freshwater reservoir system, which is a great place to jog and walk, or just watch the spectacular sunsets.

Final Appraisal: Art Deco meets the Jetsons in a close-knit Baltimore neighborhood. This house is only going to appeal to a very special person – a little bit quirky and a bit trendy. The house is small, at just over 1,100 square feet, but the original owners managed to pack a lot in there. If you are interested in the house you have to act FAST! Bids are due to the listing agent at noon on Thursday, March 4th. The listing for the house is here.
