Scott and Gilbert — aka Jonah Scott and Brian Gilbert — are a couple of wacky Johns Hopkins students who just happen to love pop music and ukeleles. Hey, why not?
For the past few months, the suspendered duo has been uploading videos of their endearingly nerdy covers of hits by Beyonce, Justin Timberlake, and Fun. to YouTube. Their videos are low-fi in the best way: often recorded on the Hopkins campus, they incorporate dorm room furniture, black lights, and comedic interludes. They just might be your new favorite band.
Their new video takes things to the next level: it’s professionally shot, and the song is an original. “And now, for the first time ever, Scott & Gilbert feel like a legitimate band,” the duo says. And they’re right, it looks great — but I have to say, I still have a soft spot in my heart for the awkward, DIY videos.
