Utility rates are likely to go up soon, despite sweeping legislation passed by the Maryland General Assembly this year designed to bring down monthly bills.
This year’s Utility RELIEF Act promised a slew of changes and funding initiatives to help reduce energy costs, like temporarily reducing Marylanders’ EmPOWER surcharge come next year.
EmPOWER incentivizes energy efficiency and conservation efforts through free and discounted energy audits, weatherization and efficient appliances – all ratepayers fund the program through a monthly $15 to $20 fee.
