She wears neatly tailored suits and the highest of high heels–so, yes, of course Baltimore mayor Stephanie Rawlings-Blake is one of the world’s best-dressed mayors. We’re just surprised that Vanity Fair glanced away from its New York/LA/London centric focus long enough to notice.
SRB makes the list along with a lot of Europeans, including the mayors of Paris, Milan, and Amsterdam, who are probably legally mandated to be stylish. The only U.S. mayors to make the list are Rahm Emanuel (Chicago), Eric Garcetti (LA), and SRB.
Here’s what Vanity Fair has to say about SRB:
Baltimore’s chief bureaucrat looks so on point for every occasion that she should write a style guide for the modern woman in politics. Tasteful but feminine dress for a corporate party? Check. Skinny jeans and heels (yes, heels!) at her city’s Pride Parade? Check. Well-tailored jackets and a hairdo that’s far from dowdy? Check, and check.
And here’s what our mayor said upon hearing of the honor, according to the Baltimore Sun:
I’m honored to be recognized by Vanity Fair as one of the best-dressed mayors. I take a lot of pride in my appearance as a representative of the city of Baltimore, a city with world-class fashion talent and a rich cultural history. And as a serious bargain hunter ‘frugalista,’ I’m always looking for new ways to step up my game.
