What: A nice family house, well located, in a neighborhood rife with children. It has curb appeal, and the front porch is a dream. The ground floor layout is a little awkward — a small living room at the front and a narrow library with fireplace, currently being used as a dining room. But it opens into a big sunny kitchen, and all is forgiven, except maybe the weird countertops which are poured cement with a plastic glaze. Upstairs are two children’s rooms with small closets and a good-sized master with adjoining bath. There is a second full bath here, too, and a very small, but sunny, room which would make a nice office. The basement is newly carpeted and has been divided into a rec room on one side and a storage/work room on the other. It is at ground level, so it has windows and natural light.
Where: Ruxton Heights. Most people would call it Ruxton, but there are rules about these things, and Berwick Road apparently sits “outside the zone.” That said, it is just off Bellona Avenue, around the corner from Graul’s Market — contender for “best grocery in the world” and located in the heart of Ruxton. Other houses on the street are charming, on smallish lots. At the end of the street, a couple of houses down, is the school bus stop. Kids can be ferried to top schools –Rodgers Forge Elementary, Dumbarton Middle or Towson High — for free!
Why: Recent price reduction makes it more attractive.
Why Not: Not everything has been done well. The fishpond, in particular, looks jerry-rigged.
Would Suit: Family looking for kid-friendly neighborhood.
NB: Listing says “relo docs in documents,” which usually means the house is owned by a relocation company and has been pre-inspected. Make sure your lender is familiar with this procedure, as it can be complicated.
