Baltimore Ravens wide receiver Steve Smith Sr. just made one teenage girl’s day.
In a video, Smith asked Aubrey Bridges of Charlotte, N.C., if he could be her date to prom. It’s a pretty cute video; the Pro-Bowler actually looks slightly nervous. “Hey Aubrey, Steve Smith here,” he began. “I want to know: would you let me take you to the prom?”
Bridges couldn’t contain her smile. She accepted immediately.
The high school senior is autistic and deals with a Vein of Galen Malformation, which affects her ability to process speech and sounds. She speaks with the help of an iPad and a communications device.
Smith learned that Bridges has been an avid fan of his since his Carolina Panther days from Dream On 3, a group that seeks to fulfill the sports-related dreams of youth with chronic illnesses and life-altering conditions.
Mission accomplished. Bridges told the Gaston Gazette she was so happy that she “danced around the house” immediately accepting Smith’s invitation.
