Hot House: 509 Park Avenue, Towson 21204
Arts & Crafts style wood frame bungalow, circa 1929, with cedar siding, front porch and back deck. Recent renovation. 1,265 sq. ft, with 4 bedrooms (one on main floor), 2 full baths. Living room with fireplace, dining room, updated granite and stainless kitchen. Hardwood floors throughout, many original architectural details. Unfinished basement, heat pump, .22 acre lot: $454,900
What: Cute as a movie set, or a page out of Real Simple, a pretty Arts & Crafts bungalow sheltered beneath tall trees. The cozy front porch and sun dappled yard give it a welcoming feeling, and the supporting struts under the eaves are a nice touch. The house feels bigger than it is, with wide doorways and halls and generous windows that let in plenty of light. Upstairs are three bedrooms, a full hall bath and a walk-in storage closet. The master bedroom is not large, but it does have two good-size closets. There’s more storage in the garage, which is not really accessible for a car, but fine for bikes, etc. Back deck off the kitchen has a grill, a picnic table and a view of the green back yard. The realtor, who lives on the street, says that this neighborhood does not have covenants, so getting permission to build out the back should be easy, and many on the street have done this. Which is not to say you need to.
Where: This is arguably the nicest and quietest street in West Towson, which in the past few years has been enjoying a resurgence of interest from home buyers, and seems unexpectedly to be becoming a college town. Park Avenue is a street of small but charming houses on 1/4 acre lots with plenty of children. At the end of the block, easily visible from the front yard, is a nice playground and two big playing fields that are maintained by the city of Towson. It’s just a mile and a half from West Towson Elementary School — which ranks 19th out of 866 elementary schools in the state of Maryland –not too shabby… Shopping, dining, the Thursday farmer’s market and the new Towson cineplex are all just a short stroll away. Popular Omnitest Prep site is around the corner, for when SAT’s loom — but that’s years away.
Why:Perfect setting for the simple life you’ve been meaning to lead.
Why Not: No master suite.
Would Suit: Towson professor with young family.
NB: There was lots of interest at a recent open house … if it speaks to you, hurry.
