Iceland. Wow.
Iceland. Wow.

Cheap, direct flights to Iceland from BWI are coming sooner than expected.

WOW Air, which sent everyone into Nordic pastoral dreamland when they announced their $99 flights from BWI to Iceland in the fall, is taking off faster than expected. The airline hasnโ€™t even put a plane in the air, and theyโ€™re already expanding due to high demand.

On Tuesday, the airline announced it will begin flights from BWI to Iceland in May, which is one month sooner than expected. WOW will also begin selling flights to 20 other European cities like London and Copenhagen, via Iceland. Additionally, WOW will offer the flights all year. Initially, they were only going to offer the service from June-October.

To start, BWI and Boston are the only two American airports where WOW is flying. If the service is as good as advertised, though, look for other cities to latch on.

BWI officials are already ramping up international flights. Letโ€™s hope the budget airlines like WOW that are moving in drive prices down for everyone.

  1. The cheapest flights out of BWI seem to $165/one way which makes it comparable to most other airlines’ flights to Reykjavik. Where’d the $99 come from?
