After a shutdown and a surprise resurrection, Baltimore Clayworks is back and raising money with community-made bowls.
Locals convened last month at the Mount Washington nonprofit to make lots of bowls. Today, they’ll unveil them for a community meal to raise money for ailing families in Puerto Rico. Attendees can pick from soups and pies (vegan options available) donated by Wild Thyme, Magdalena and Black Sugar, Clayworks’ interim executive director Nicole Fall said in an email.
Just as a reminder, Puerto Rico is still in dire straits from the damage left by Hurricane Maria in September. Nearly 40 percent of residents are still without power, NPR reports, though the Trump administration has said the territory isn’t poor enough to warrant additional aid.
Clayworks hopes to send what help it can from Baltimore. Proceeds from “Empty Bowls for Puerto Rico” will come from ticket sales and go to Taller Salud, a grassroots organization in Puerto Rico focusing on sexual education, violence prevention and reproductive rights.
Event runs from 5-8 p.m. in the Gallery Building at 5707 Smith Avenue. Tickets $25 per adult, $15 per child aged 15 and under.
