“Homebodies,” a curious-looking play about a puzzling box and the larger concept of what makes a home a home, premieres tonight at Mid-Town Belvedere’s Baltimore Theater Project.
The three-day production is a puppet show put on by Alex & Olmsted, a duo comprising Happenstance Theater’s Alex Vernon and Sarah Olmsted Thomas. The below trailer, set to the old-timey tune of The Ink Spots’ “We Three,” depicts the pair appearing to fight over a lamp and chasing each other around, all with their 30 cubic inch puzzle box lurking nearby. There’s a also a shot of a morose-looking puppet dressed like a ticket-collecting train guard.
The box’s role in their relationship remains something of a mystery, though the production’s website says in their show, Alex & Olmsted together “combine physical comedy and puppetry to unlock the house of the imagination.”
If you can’t catch the premiere, “Homebodies” has two runs on Saturday at 3 p.m. and 8 p.m., and a finale show at 3 p.m. on Sunday.
