Copper Union will celebrate the grand opening of its new pickleball club in Mt. Washington on Oct. 4 and 5, from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. The club will welcome players of all skill levels, from beginners to experienced competitors, and will have a café offering food and beverages courtesy of Copper Café.
Open to the public, amenities at Copper Union will include eight outdoor pickleball courts with lights; equipment rentals; lessons and clinics for all skill levels; social events and tournaments; private party and event space; and food and beverages.
“We are thrilled to open the first of our Social Clubs in Baltimore,” said Chip Watkins, Managing Partner of Copper Union. “We believe that pickleball is a sport for everyone, which is why we are committed to providing a welcoming and inclusive environment for all who visit. Copper Union is open to the public, and to receive premium perks, court reservation advantages and discounts on programming and food and beverages in the Beer Garden we encourage folks to ‘join the union’ for a monthly membership fee of $25.”
Members also receive three guest passes per year, 10% off pro shop purchases, discounts on Open Play and Friday Night Socials, and more. Children age 16 or younger can be added to a membership plan for $15 per month.
Copper Union’s café offers handcrafted foods like New York-style pizzas, chicken wings, and gourmet “hot pockets.” The café also offers alcoholic and non-alcoholic drinks. The outdoor eating space is family- and leashed-dog-friendly, located next to Norris Field in Mt. Washington. Those playing sports at Norris Field can easily hop over to the Copper Café for snacks and refreshments. Guests at Copper Union can arrange for food and beverages to be delivered to them courtside or even take breaks in the Beer Garden.

According to Pickleheads, a website connecting players with courts around the United States, there are 346 pickleball locations with 1,417 courts in Maryland. The state has the 21st most pickleball courts in the nation. According to the business section of the Maryland state website, adults have driven the bulk of growth in popularity of pickleball.
Copper Union Mt. Washington Pickleball Courts are open Monday – Thursday, 8 a.m. to 8 p.m.; Friday, 8 a.m. to 9 p.m.; Saturday, 7 a.m. to 8 p.m.; and Sunday, 7 a.m. to 7 p.m.
The Beer Garden is open Tuesday – Friday, 5 p.m. to 9 p.m.; Saturday, 11 a.m. to 8 p.m.; and Sunday only for select events.

Can’t say enough nice things about this place! Copper Union is incredible! The facilities are top tier, food and drinks are delish, and all of the staff are very friendly. Just started in one of the leagues a couple of weeks ago. There are really quality players and the league is well organized. Highly recommend checking this place out!
