Even after putting out nine simultaneous fires in one day on Sunday, firefighters didnโt have a chance to cool off overnight. Early Monday morning, they were dispatched to a marina in Fells Point, where two boats were ablaze, according to the U.S. Coast Guard.
About 3:30 a.m., a boat caught fire and got loose in Belts Wharf Landing Yacht Club, which is located near the 1000 block of Fell St. The boat drifted into nearby Hendersonโs Wharf, where it hit another vessel. The second vessel also caught fire. Both boats eventually sank, according to the Coast Guard.
No injuries were reported in the incident, and officials are still investigating the cause.
When the sun came up, an oil slick remained on the surface where the boats once floated. Baltimore firefighters and state environmental officials placed absorbent boom and pads around the oil to contain the gas that spilled into the harbor during the incident.
