Will Hauver, a young man who grew up in Towson and played lacrosse at McDonogh, died this month in Florida, where he was attending Rollins College. Hauverโs death at 22 was undeniably tragic; whatโs amazing, though, is the way his friends and family have channeled his memory into making the world a better place.
Last year, Hauver one-upped the inescapable ice bucket challenge videos with a challenge of his own: He cracked an egg on his head in order to raise awareness of diabetes. (Hauver himself was a type 1 diabetic.) Since his passing, the egg crack challenge has taken on a life of its own, with students from UVA to Boston College getting in on the egg-smashing fun. A few thousand dollars have been donated to the Juvenile Diabetes Research Fund in Hauverโs name.

Got an egg? Then you, too, can join in on the funโor you can just donate to the fund here. What a fitting way to celebrate a young man who was so clearly full of life.

McDonogh does not have a “U” in it.
Hi Colleen: I am not seeing the ‘u’ in McDonogh. There was one, but we caught it before the post went live yesterday. It makes me wonder if you are seeing the pre-edited version, and if so, how? Can you tell me where you are seeing the error? Many thanks!
Susan, a friend shared it on facebook and the U is in the word McDonogh on that share.
