Will Hauver, a young man who grew up in Towson and played lacrosse at McDonogh, died this month in Florida, where he was attending Rollins College. Hauverโ€™s death at 22 was undeniably tragic; whatโ€™s amazing, though, is the way his friends and family have channeled his memory into making the world a better place.

Last year, Hauver one-upped the inescapable ice bucket challenge videos with a challenge of his own: He cracked an egg on his head in order to raise awareness of diabetes. (Hauver himself was a type 1 diabetic.) Since his passing, the egg crack challenge has taken on a life of its own, with students from UVA to Boston College getting in on the egg-smashing fun. A few thousand dollars have been donated to the Juvenile Diabetes Research Fund in Hauverโ€™s name.

Got an egg? Then you, too, can join in on the funโ€“or you can just donate to the fund here. What a fitting way to celebrate a young man who was so clearly full of life.

    1. Hi Colleen: I am not seeing the ‘u’ in McDonogh. There was one, but we caught it before the post went live yesterday. It makes me wonder if you are seeing the pre-edited version, and if so, how? Can you tell me where you are seeing the error? Many thanks!
