Will Hauver, a young man who grew up in Towson and played lacrosse at McDonogh, died this month in Florida, where he was attending Rollins College. Hauver’s death at 22 was undeniably tragic; what’s amazing, though, is the way his friends and family have channeled his memory into making the world a better place.
Last year, Hauver one-upped the inescapable ice bucket challenge videos with a challenge of his own: He cracked an egg on his head in order to raise awareness of diabetes. (Hauver himself was a type 1 diabetic.) Since his passing, the egg crack challenge has taken on a life of its own, with students from UVA to Boston College getting in on the egg-smashing fun. A few thousand dollars have been donated to the Juvenile Diabetes Research Fund in Hauver’s name.
Got an egg? Then you, too, can join in on the fun–or you can just donate to the fund here. What a fitting way to celebrate a young man who was so clearly full of life.
