Some changes are coming to the Charm City Circulator over the next few months, and not all routes will remain intact. The main alteration to the free bus line will remove the Banner Route, which runs through Locust Point and Fort McHenry. Many residents of that community arenโt pleased, and state legislators weighed in on their behalf this week.
A letter to the mayor signed by State Sen. Bill Ferguson, Dels. Luke Clippinger, Pete Hammen and Brooke Lierman called for the city to โmaintain the Banner Route.โ
โIt would be impossible to overstate the frustration that residents have with the Cityโs current plan to end the Banner Route,โ the letter states. โMany residents have purchased homes and taken jobs based on this public transit option. Businesses rely on it to bring patrons from elsewhere to their businesses on the peninsula.โ
Locust Point will be sacrificed from the bus line in favor of Charles Village, which will see expanded service from Penn Station to the North Baltimore neighborhood in the new plan.
