Every year Forbes releases its 30 Under 30 list, a media event designed to make the rest of us feel old and washed up admiration and pride.

This year, Hopkins PhD candidate Guy Marcus made the list for his contributions to science. Marcus, who works with the universityโ€™s Institute for Quantum Matter (which kind of sounds like something out of a Marvel movie, doesnโ€™t it?), is conducting research focusing on quantum magnetism.

โ€œThis field of physics has demonstrated ability to develop new materials with a variety of potential applications, from high-temperature superconductors for transmitting power more efficiently to chemically-tuned magnetic materials that could enable new kinds of computing,โ€ Forbes notes. Heโ€™s also only 24, which conceivably means he could make the list five more times before becoming old and washed up at 30.
