As far as I know, Susan Sarandon doesn’t live in Baltimore. Nonetheless, she has an opinion about who she’d like to see become our next mayor.
Yesterday, Sarandon tweeted out her endorsement of DeRay Mckesson, the Black Lives Matter activist who’s been getting a ton of national media attention–but not necessarily a ton of support on the ground, if you believe the polls.
I support @deray for Mayor. Give the people of Baltimore a chance for change. https://t.co/N19lD7x0n3

While Sarandon’s endorsement may seem like it comes out of the blue, there is a bit of precedent: The actress is known for being politically engaged and outspoken. She’s even waded into the waters of Maryland politics before, when she campaigned for the state’s marriage equality bill alongside then-governor Martin O’Malley a few years ago.
Even so, I’m not sure if her stance will sway anyone. But I look forward to more Hollywood endorsements in the weeks to come.
