What makes a hospital green? According to Becker’s Hospital Review, it takes sustainable design, waste reduction, energy efficiency, and water conservation, among other things.
Three local hospitals rank high on Becker’s list of the greenest medical centers in America. They are Bon Secours Baltimore (which hosts a monthly farmer’s market to improve community nutrition); Johns Hopkins Hospital (which boasts 65,000 square feet of green roofs); and the University of Maryland Medical Center (which is building two new buildings according to LEED standards).
Congrats to all these local players for caring about the health and well-being of the environment as well as the health and well-being of their patients!
