If you or anyone you know plans to fly out of BWI-Thurgood Marshall Airport tonight or on Tuesday, it may be worth finding other shelter and giving the airline a call.
FlightTracker.com calculates 109 flights entering or leaving BWI today have been cancelled, with 75 already delayed. On Tuesday, 492 flights have been cancelled as of 4 p.m. today.
BWI’s website shows most departures for tonight are on time or delayed leading up to 8:30 p.m., with most cancellations starting thereafter. Of the 28 flights that are supposed to leave BWI after 8:40 p.m., only seven are listed as “on time” or “delayed” (as of 3:50 p.m.) Nearly all of the flights that have been cancelled are operated by Southwest Airlines, the airport’s largest flight carrier.
The forecasts keep changing, but as of this afternoon, the National Weather Service predicts four to eight inches of snow will fall on Baltimore and the surrounding area between 7 p.m. tonight and 2 p.m. tomorrow. BWI is staying prepared, with snow plows at the ready:
