Last week, we suggested you make it down to the Miracle on 34th Street in Hampden.  We paid it a visit and it was quite grand.  If you have yet to make it over, the good news is that you can go for more reasons than just getting into the spirit of the season!  For the third year in a row, the Baltimore Animal Rescue and Care Shelter (BARCS) will be providing visitors to the Miracle on 34th Street with hot cocoa, baked homemade goods, dog treats and cat toys, all in exchange for donations every Thursday through Sunday in December, and almost every night of the holiday week.

Fishbowl pets aren’t too enthused about the impending holidays

Bring your favorite furry loved one for wonderful photo opportunities with Santa and his elves, and remember to bring any new toys that your favorite pet may not have taken to that can be gifted to the shelter animals.  BARCS’ fundraising efforts will go directly to their Franky Fund for sick or injured animals that need immediate attention, their spray and neutering efforts, and general enrichment needs.  Keep an eye out for animals that will be out looking for their forever homes, and consider talking to a BARCS volunteer about fostering and volunteer opportunities.   As you’re perusing the lovely light displays on 34th this year, perhaps you can consider giving the gift a new home, warm bed, to a local animal in need, or just help alleviate some of the many costs to keep them warm and comfortable until they find a place to call their own.

From their site:
“BARCS will once again be on 34th Street for the awesome Holiday lighting spectacular during the month of Dec.! We will have hot cocoa and baked goods in exchange for a donation to help care for the 12,000 animals we take in each year. So, if you or anyone that you know will be coming down to view the beautiful lights in Hampden on 34th street make sure to stop by our table area to get some hot cocoa and cookies to enjoy during your walk!”
