Hot House:1728 Ruxton Road, Ruxton, MD 21204

Plantation style house in white brick, circa 1967, significantly rebuilt in 2006, sited on a private, landscaped, three acre property off of Ruxton Road. Five large bedrooms, six full, two half baths over 7,212 square feet. Gourmet kitchen, 44’ living room with vaulted ceiling. Two car garage, circular drive, pond. Completely handicapped accessible: $2,390,000

What: The owners, from New Orleans, rebuilt this house in 2006 to care for aging family members. Inspired by visions of home, they added a large wing on the right, as well as a wrought iron veranda that runs the length of the second story, overlooking the aristocratic grounds and pond, and adding a sort of French Quarter charm. While the home’s front entrance is at ground level, taking you up a sweeping wrought iron staircase, the back entrance opens directly onto the second level, which is the main, open plan, living area. Here, the huge living room extends into the sunset. The gourmet kitchen has a fireplace as well as granite counters, granite floors and high end appliances.  Several very large bedroom suites are designed for privacy and comfort, with giant closets and large and modern bathrooms. Most rooms on this level lead out through French doors onto the veranda, shaded in summer by tall crepe myrtles.  Ground level has two bedrooms, workout room, games room and office space. Hardwood floors throughout. Four zone HVAC.

Where:  Driving north on Charles Street, pass Woodbrook and take a left on Bellona Avenue. Follow it down and take a left over the bridge onto Ruxton Road.  Take the sharp right after Circle Road. 1728 is on the right, in a private enclave of five or so houses on a lane off of Ruxton Road. Several nice houses here, with large properties, all quiet and private. This part of Ruxton was part of a deeded parcel from Lord Calvert called Young Gentleman’s Adventure. It’s less then a mile from here to Graul’s, Ruxton Station and more on Bellona.

Why: The landscaped grounds are grand and quite beautiful. Rolling lawns, dappled shade, large trees  — plantationesque.

Why Not:  A 44’ living room needs a lot of furniture.

Would Suit:  The Kardashians. Large or extended family who like to get together and like to entertain. Perfect for multi-generational living. There are two master suites, on opposite ends of the house.

NB: For a compound like this, a pool or tennis court would be nice.
