Angeli’s Pizzeria is the latest restaurateur planning to open at Harborplace.

Baltimore’s liquor board sent out a notice this week stating that it has received an application from the family-owned Angeli’s Pizzeria chain seeking a liquor license for a restaurant it plans to open in the Light Street pavilion of Harborplace, 301 Light Street.

The restaurant would be called Angeli’s Pizzeria II, and the licensee would be Cuneyt Ozturk. The applicant is an entity called 5716 LLC.

The Harborplace spot would be the fifth location of Angeli’s Pizzeria, which started in Little Italy and also has locations in Federal Hill, Govans and Bolton Hill, where it replaced Noona’s at 1203 W. Mount Royal Ave. last year. Its Bolton Hill restaurant is part of The Fitzgerald apartment building. The Fitzgerald is owned by MCB Real Estate, the same company that owns Harborplace.

In 2023, MCB announced plans to tear down the Harborplace pavilions at Pratt and Light streets and replace them with a $500 million mixed use development that includes residences, offices, shops, restaurants and green space. While it finalizes its plans, the company is offering vacant space in the pavilions to short-term tenants who agree to move out when MCB is ready to start construction.

Angeli’s is known for its build-your-own New York-style pizza, including varieties topped with chicken pesto or marinated chicken breast, as well as house marinated wings, calzones and salads. It also offers meatball, Italian, chicken, grilled cheese, and portabella mushroom sandwiches.

Angeli’s had a pizzeria and event space last summer on the second level of the Light Street pavilion but it didn’t stay open through the fall and winter. The liquor board’s notice stated that Angeli’s is applying to occupy space 2405 in the Light Street Pavilion, which is on the second level with harbor views.

5716 LLC is one of two groups that are seeking approval from the liquor board to open a restaurant at Harborplace. According to the notice sent out this week, a group called SSS Bar and Grill Inc. is applying to transfer an existing liquor license to open a restaurant called Supano’s Steakhouse and Sports Bar in space 1445 of the Light Street Pavilion, where Hooters closed last June.

According to MCB representatives, the restaurant would be operated by Terry Coffman, the restaurateur who owned Supano’s Prime Steakhouse Seafood & Pasta at 110 Water St., which is no longer open. The liquor board hasn’t announced dates when it will hold public hearings to consider the two applications. According to MCB, Coffman is aiming to open Supano’s next month.

One MCB executive who is a fan of Angeli’s is Lou Kousouris III, the company’s Vice President, Strategic Projects and Initiatives.

“Angeli’s Pizzeria…has an impressive track record of success,” Kousouris said when the Bolton Hill restaurant was announced last year. “Its entrepreneurial ownership team understands the value of working hard and establishing a presence with the community.”’
