Families in West Baltimore are invited to a festive, free community event this Saturday, August 9, at the Mondawmin Community Center, where organizers are hosting a Back-to-School Community Day filled with giveaways, family-friendly fun, and local pride.
The event, which kicks off at 10 a.m. at 2415 Liberty Heights Avenue, includes the distribution of hundreds of backpacks stocked with school supplies to help students start the school year strong. Attendees can also snap a photo with the Baltimore Ravens mascot, Poe, enjoy face painting, participate in financial health workshops, and connect with local organizations providing additional giveaways and resources.
Lead organizers are the office of Baltimore City Councilman James Torrence, Infinity Legacy and Baltimore Teacher Network. Community partners include JP Morgan Chase, Young Successful Leaders, Parks and People Foundation, MLBC, United Way of Central Maryland, CareFirst, and others. Following the morning celebration, the festivities continue with the Summers in the 7th Block Party taking place just across the parking lot.
The event is part of Chaseโs investment in West Baltimore. Chase has worked to expand access to banking and financial services in historically underbanked neighborhoods and opened a branch at Mondawmin Mall in 2022. The Mondawmin branch was one of the first in a series of โcommunity centersโ the bank opened nationwide.
Chaseโs Mondawmin branch offers free financial health workshops and provides meeting space for community groups, hosts local small business events, and partners with nonprofit organizations to offer credit counseling, homebuyer education, and more.
