“Unedited Footage of a Bear,” Adult Swim’s new 4 a.m. short sounds like it will be just the thing to unwind with after a super late night of who-knows-what. And for about 30 seconds it delivers — you’re just hanging out with a cute bear. Then you’re interrupted by an ad for allergy medicine. From there, things get pretty dark, pretty quick. But if you keep your eyes open, you may notice that this nature-video-turned-ad-turned-psychological-thriller was completely Baltimore-made.
Since being uploaded to YouTube on Tuesday, the 10-minute video has garnered more than 400,000 views and many “positive” mentions from the likes of Paper, Mashable, io9, the Guardian, Gawker, and so on.
The viral short was created by Baltimore artists Alan Resnick, Ben O’Brien (full disclosure: he’s my brother), and Dina Kelberman. The advertisement scenes were shot in Mt. Washington, and several local personalities can be spotted among the supporting cast, including but not limited to: Matmos’s M.C. Schmidt, Dan Deacon, performance artist Robby Rackleff, playwright Lola Pierson, and comedian Stavros Halkias.
Here it is. Be warned; it gets graphic.
