logoThis Thursday, October 20, Baltimore Country Club will be the site of the first The Best of the Best Fashion Show, benefittng The Women’s Board of The Johns Hopkins Hospital. If you haven’t gotten your tickets yet, there’s still time!

The evening includes a traditional fashion show as well as demonstrations (think scarf-tying and napkin-folding), makeup refreshing, a silent auction, and vendors, including India Hicks, The Pleasure of Your Company, Amaryllis, Sassy Cyclist and Holotats. There will be cocktails, light fare and cupcakes.

During the fashion show, several local celebs will model looks from shops like The Little Shoebox, JG Sassy, Rutland Beard, J McLaughlin, Octavia, Sassanova and Francesca’s. WJZ news anchor Mary Bubala will emcee, introducing models like Lynn Brick, with her mother Cecelia and daughter Vicki, realtor Karen Bisbee, dermatologists Diane Orlinsky and Eva Simmons O’Brien and Chef Cindy Wolf.

The evening is sponsored by a handful of prominent local organizations: Select Events and the Johns Hopkins Alumni Association are “Platinum Platform Heels” sponsors, Hubble Bisbee Group is the “Gold Hoop Earrings” sponsor, Brown Advisory is the Sliver Sponsor and The Johns Hopkins School of Nursing is the Pearl Sponsor.

Proceeds from the evening will benefit The Women’s Board of The Johns Hopkins Hospital, an 89-year old nonprofit, all-volunteer board that raises and allocates funds for grants and scholarships within the hospital. Money raised by the Board fully funds two scholarships – one for the School of Nursing and one for the School of Medicine – and funds projects selected by the Board via grant application process.

In 2017, Women’s Board funds will help fund projects like studies on fetal neurodevelopment and the purchase of fleece jackets designed for cancer patients receiving chemotherapy. Grants will total about $750,000 in 2017; since its founding, the Women’s Board has contributed millions of dollars to the hospital.

In early November, the Women’s Board will also host the Best Dressed Sale, an annual resale event in its 49th year. The sale is expected to raise about $200,000 for Women’s Board grants.
