Courtesy Citybizlist – Times-Shamrock Communications is putting the Baltimore City Paper up for sale in a bid to shed all its alternative weekly papers, the Baltimore Business Journal reported. Merger and acquisitions firm Dirks, Van Essen & Murray is to handle the transaction.
The Scranton, Pa.-based media company owns four other alternative weeklies – the San Antonio Current, Cleveland Scene, Orlando Weekly and Detroit Metro Times.
Founded in 1977, the free City Paper was bought by Times-Shamrock Communications in 1987. Today, it has about 25 full-time employees.
“Baltimore City Paper has been a strong, profitable investment for us for many years. As we look to diversify our family’s holdings, it made sense for us to offer City Paper for sale to someone who could take it to the next level of growth,” Times-Shamrock CEO
