I want my NPR! Well, I at least want to head over to their website where I can stream the upcoming Future Islands album, On the Water, in its entirety.
The Baltimore (via North Carolina) trio made a name for themselves in the rock underground with their raw, punk take on new wave, and a mesmerizing frontman who toggles between operatic bombast and a more grizzled Tom Waits…um, in a good way.
In 2010 they signed to Chicago’s venerable Thrill Jockey label, began titling all their records with prepositional phrases, and exploded into the national consciousness. If you want to hear what all the fuss is about (and what I mean by a more grizzled Tom Waits), give a listen.
