Bryn Mawr School leaders, students, alumni and donors gathered last week to celebrate the groundbreaking of a new Upper School building, marking a major milestone in the school’s $25 million “Bryn Mawr, Beyond: Imagining Tomorrow” campaign.
Held on the Lower School field, the ceremony featured students from across all divisions wearing bright yellow “Hardy Hats” and waving pennants as they bid farewell to the Hardy Building, the school’s longtime Upper School science and math building built in 1968.
The new building is designed to create a more cohesive academic hub for Upper School students. Construction is scheduled to begin after commencement ceremonies on June 5.
School officials said the project is a centerpiece of the broader campaign, which aims to expand and modernize campus facilities, grow the school’s endowment and strengthen annual fundraising efforts. Organizers announced that more than $21 million has been raised toward the campaign’s overall goal.
Head of School Sue Sadler said the project reflects the school’s commitment to providing facilities that match the caliber of its students and faculty.
“Our faculty and students are innovative, bold, and exceptional — it is time they have a building that is, too,” Sadler said.
Student speaker Isha Chaudhuri ’26 said, “In a way, the new Hardy building will be a mural. It will represent what I love about Bryn Mawr: our intentionality, our integrativeness, and our inquisitive minds.”
