Beloved former Baltimore Sun political cartoonist “Kal” will be at The Ivy Bookshop tomorrow night, Tuesday, December 17 at 7 p.m. to discuss his latest collection, Daggers Drawn.
For over three decades, Kevin “Kal” Kallaugher has entertained and enraged a global audience with his sharp cartoons and witty covers for The Economist magazine. In this large, beautifully printed retrospective collection, 300 of Kal’s best works from his more than 4,000 cartoons and 140 covers are printed, along with essays discussing his celebrated 35-year career with the magazine. Kal aptly captures in this book the important news and newsmakers of recent history through his uniquely artistic and satirical pen.
In his distinguished career that spans 35 years and two continents, Kal has created over 8,000 cartoons and 140 magazine covers for The Economist of London and the Baltimore Sun. His resume includes six collections of his published work, one-man exhibitions in six countries and international honors and awards. Since 2006, the Norwalk, Connecticut, native and Harvard University graduate has been the Artist-in-Residence at University of Maryland, Baltimore County (UMBC). He has created acclaimed animations and calendars, toured the U.S. with Second City and addressed audiences around the world.
