After the number of Marylanders hospitalized due to COVID-19 reached an all-time high of 3,462 patients on Tuesday, the state’s coronavirus-related hospitalizations have dipped to 3,363 patients as of Friday but remain significantly higher than before the omicron-fueled surge.
This time last week, there were 3,208 Marylanders hospitalized with coronavirus.
Before the recent COVID-19 surge, Maryland’s record for coronavirus hospitalizations was 1,952 on Jan. 11, 2021.
Maryland health officials have confirmed the coronavirus-related deaths of 12,303 Marylanders, including 435 residents whose deaths were newly reported over the last seven days.
To date, there have also been 248 Marylanders whose deaths are suspected to be linked to COVID-19.
Officials have reported 81,179 confirmed coronavirus cases since last week, reaching 881,922 on Friday.
The state’s seven-day average positive test rate currently sits at 24.77%, down from 28.3% last Friday, Jan. 7.
Among Marylanders who received initial vaccine doses, the state has administered 4,000,998 second doses of a two-dose vaccine (66.179% of the state’s population) and 329,924 doses of a single-dose vaccine (5.457% of the state’s population).
There have been 1,822,317 booster shots administered in Maryland, with 151.876 booster doses administered since last Friday, about a 9.092% increase.
