The number of Marylanders currently hospitalized due to COVID-19 dipped below 100 on Friday for the first time during the pandemic.
Maryland recorded 97 current hospital patients with coronavirus on Friday, down 18 patients from June 25.
The state has confirmed a total of 462,439 positive coronavirus cases as of Friday morning, while 3,618,166 Marylanders have tested negative for the virus.
Over the past seven days, Maryland has recorded a total of 422 new cases, an increase of about 0.09%.
As of Friday, 9,529 Marylanders have been confirmed to have died from COVID-19. There are also 217 people whose deaths are suspected to be related to coronavirus.
State officials have confirmed 16 new deaths over the past seven days.
The seven-day average positivity rate sits at 0.57%.
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention on Friday reported that 74.8% of Marylanders age 18 or older have received at least one dose of a coronavirus vaccine.
A total of 3,406,528 Marylanders, or 56.1%, are fully vaccinated against COVID-19.
The number of fully vaccinated Marylanders increased by 104,075 people, or about 3.2%, since June 25.
President Joe Biden set a goal to get 70% of people ages 18 and older in the United States vaccinated with at least one coronavirus vaccine dose by July 4.
But the White House’s COVID-19 response team in June conceded that the U.S. will not hit that 70% goal by July 4. Still, local, state and federal officials continue to push the importance of people getting vaccinated to protect themselves and others against COVID-19.
Maryland reached the 70% milestone on May 31, more than one month ahead of the target date.
