Milky Way is the candy of choice to satisfy Marylanders’ sweet tooth this year, according to market research firm Top Data.
The firm determined the most popular Halloween candies in each state by analyzing digital commerce trends in October 2021 and October 2022.
Milky Way is the most popular spooky season sweet in Maryland, a top favorite shared by Floridians and Nebraskans.
In Maryland, Snickers and Skittles came in second and third, respectively.
Reese’s Peanut Butter Cups are the go-to treats for 18 states, the most of any candy. They came in fifth place in Maryland.
Nationally, Reese’s were followed by Kit Kat, the favorite candy in nine states.
Halloween candy sales appear to be on the rebound after a dip in the first year of the pandemic.
According to Top Data, the U.S. recorded 115,500 tons of Halloween candy sales in October 2020, down from 141,000 tons in October 2019, marking an approximately 18% decrease.
But in October 2021, Halloween candy sales rose by about 10% to 127,500 tons.
This year, Top Data forecasts sales will climb by 23%, putting projected sales at nearly 157,000 tons this season.
