This is the spillway on the Loch Raven Reservoir dam in Towson, MD. But it could be anywhere. It is the primary source of drinking water for the Baltimore area

Getting closer to the water is the main aim of many a summer weekend. On this particular Saturday, there’s a chance to have a good time and connect a little further with the water.

Dam Jam is set to flow forth on August 20 at Cromwell Valley Park. From there, one of the highlights is tours of the Loch Raven Dam, a marvel in itself and key in the drinking water system for the Baltimore city and county. The event runs 10 a.m. – 4 p.m., so there’s reason to stick around beyond a tour.

The festival features music like old school jazz from Hot Club of Baltimore, and R&B from Gary and the Groove. Artists will also be showing off their work. Plus, plenty of hikes, birdwatching and other chances to connect with nature will be on display.
