FIVE TIPS FOR REFRESHING YOUR HOME FOR THE NEW YEAR FROM NOUVEAU HOME AND INTERIOR DESIGN
By Steve Appel, co-owner, Nouveau Home and Interior Design
Itโs January โ time for a fresh start with habits, resolutions, and in your home. With some small changes you can revitalize your living spaces for a whole new year of entertaining and relaxing.
Here are a few tips to get you started, based on our experience solving design challenges from college students and growing families to baby boomers and empty nesters. Try a few ideas on your own, or give us a call for design advice. Better yet, take advantage of our Happy Hour Design Consultation, a one-hour, personal interior design consultation for $95 ($150 value). At your convenience (weekday or nights), Nouveauโs designers will come to your home with a complimentary bottle of wine, to discuss your homeโs challenges, and how to start fresh in the new year.
Mix it up.
Try rearranging furniture differently in a room that challenges you and see how you can change the flow to create more energy for the room. Donโt be afraid to angle a table or face a chair a different direction. Sometimes all a room needs is a thoughtful re-design.
Take small risks.
Do something daring! Take a small room like a powder room and wallpaper it. Paper the ceiling too in the same or a corresponding paper. Wallpaper has changed since when you were a kid. Now, itโs so easy to put it up and even take care of. Todayโs amazing patterns can bring color and life to any space.
Showcase an heirloom.
Open up your china closet or dresser and pull out a few treasured heirlooms. Try using them in your decorating. Lean your Dadโs US Navy picture against your desk lamp, itโs called layering. Youโll be surprised at the character family mementos โ and memories โ can add to a room.
Donโt be afraid to edit.
Review a room thatโs accumulated a lot of clutter over the years and clean it out completely. Give it a fresh coat of paint and then shop your own home for pieces to redecorate with. If you donโt love an item, give it to a friend or donate it. The new trend is โ keep only what truly brings you joy.
Add cozy accessories.
You can change your look and warm it up for winter in one simple step. Purchase a few gorgeous high quality pillows that have a wonderful texture and depth of color. We like and carry the new offerings from Loloi, a company affiliated with Ellen DeGeneres. Your sofa will never look better!

โI learned about Nouveauโs Happy Hour Design Consultation while watching a local news show segment. Steve and Alivia arrived with a bottle of cabernet and, after a walk through and a friendly conversation, they created a design strategy for my condo. In addition to having creativity and experience, they are perceptive and great listeners. I highly recommend Nouveau Home and Interior Design.โ
