Recently launched, Body Shop’s “5-free” Colour Crush Nails collection leaves out the chemicals: formaldehyde resin, camphor, toluene, DBP dibutyl phthalate and Bisphenol A (BPA.)
Until 2006, most nail polish formulas included the “toxic three,” three known carcinogens: formaldehyde, toleune and DBP (dibutyl phthalate.) After the non-profits Environmental Working Group and the Campaign for Safe Cosmetics beat up nail polish manufacturers to stop including these toxins, the firms responded and most nail polish manufacturers have eliminated the three chemicals. Companies like The Body Shop have gone further and developed a “5-free” formula by also eliminating camphor and Bisphenol A.
