College basketball fans will gather in Baltimore this week as the Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association (CIAA) Basketball Tournament returns again to CFG Bank Arena.
Games will be held Tuesday through Saturday. Baltimore’s transportation department is warning motorists to expect heavier than normal traffic downtown, watch out for changing traffic patterns, and plan for delays and alternate routes.
The city will implement the following lane closures around the arena Tuesday through Friday, from 7 p.m. to 11:59 p.m. each night:
- Howard Street left lane closure from Camden Street to Pratt Street
- Lombard Street right lane closure from Hopkins Place to Howard Street
- Baltimore Street left lane closure from Howard Street to Park Avenue
- Pratt Street left lane closure from Eutaw Street to Howard Street
Those same lane closures will be implemented from 3 p.m. to 8 p.m. on during the championship games on Saturday.
The following lanes will also be closed Monday through Friday:
- Baltimore Street eastbound left lane closures at Eutaw Street daily from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.
- Eutaw Street southbound right lane closures at Baltimore Street daily from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.
- Guilford Avenue southbound left lane closure at Baltimore Street daily from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.
- Guilford Avenue reduced to one travel lane (full time) between East Lexington Street and East Fayette Street.
- North Charles Street right lane closure (full time) between Saratoga Street and Pleasant Street (utility work).
City officials are encouraging CIAA patrons to use the free-to-ride Charm City Circulator buses, including the Orange Route which will take riders directly to CFG Bank Arena.
Motorists can download the Waze.com app for live detour navigation.
Rideshare customers should use the designated pick-up and drop-off location on the south side of Baltimore Street at 2 Hopkins Plaza.
