Wine, whiskey, and lots of spring produce – this week, the Baltimore food scene is blooming. Here’s a look at what’s coming up:
Openings & announcements
This past week, Baltimore-based fans of Foraged received some shocking news, when Chef Chris Amendola announced via social media that the Station North restaurant had closed. The Foraged team also operates Foraged at Patowmack Farm in Virginia and will now be focusing its attention there.
Another local institution, One Eyed Mike’s, also recently announced that it is closing. The Fells Point staple will be open through the end of April.
Farmers’ Market season
With warmer weather – and spring produce – upon us, farmers’ markets are opening back up for the season. While the 32nd Street Farmers Market is open year round, most are only seasonal, including the large Baltimore Farmers’ Market, which operates under the JFX and reopened last Sunday.
Baltimore Old Time Music Festival
Music fans have something fun to look forward to this weekend, with the Baltimore Old Time Music Festival at the Baltimore Museum of Industry. Food fans have something to anticipate, too, as the festival has a vibrant food element including, among other things, True Chesapeake shucking oysters.
Juniper Farm reopens for spring
On April 18 and 19, Juniper Farm welcomes back spring and the kickoff of its event season with a weekend picnic. The farm has flowers, herbs, and veggies for sale, plus lots of fun activities in the works, from farm tours to photo sessions.
Boordy dinner with Brian Lavin
On Wednesday evening, Costiera chef Brian Lavin will head to the county for a pop-up at Boordy Vineyards. The evening is part of Boordy’s ongoing Supper Club Series, in which excellent chefs head to the vineyard for a night of food and wine.
Wine Thursday
Thursday, April 23 is a big day for Baltimore wine lovers.
That evening, The Food Market hosts a seven-course wine dinner in its private kitchen space. Dishes focus on spring flavors and include options like lobster Wellington with chanterelles, whipped fava beans, and melted leeks.
Also that day, True Chesapeake is hosting a complimentary tasting of white wines, sponsored by Breakthru Beverage. The wines include options from Napa and Italy.
Also on Thursday, Gunther & Co. hosts a Spanish-inspired wine dinner featuring selections from Gil Family Estates. The event’s proceeds support Chefs Cycle for No Kid Hungry.
Sagamore turns 9
Starting April 24, Sagamore Spirit Distillery will celebrate its ninth anniversary with a weekend of events, including plenty of family-friendly outdoor activities. The lineup includes food trucks, live music, distillery tours, and make your own cocktail classes.
