From spritzes to tomatoes, local restaurants are going all-in on the final, steamy weeks of summer in Baltimore. Here’s a look at what’s coming up:
Openings & announcements
Flour & Wood at La Maison is now open for dinner. The opening is very fresh – just a soft opening for this weekend – so diners should expect that the restaurant will still be figuring out operations.
Keep an eye on Candela, the new venture from the Alma Cocina Latina team, and subscribe to emails for info about what’s happening there.
Hightopps Backstage Grille in Timonium is now on the market, as the restaurant’s owners plan retirement.
The Baltimore Business Journal reports that Gratitude, a cocktail bar and Caribbean-Asian-Latin restaurant, will open in the former Foraged space in Station North.
Congratulations to the team at The Verandah Kitchen, which celebrated 15 years in business last week.
Canton breakfast spot Simply Marie’s will close after business on Sunday, Aug. 23.
Restaurant Week reprise
Summer restaurant week season isn’t quite behind us. Restaurant Week at Live! Casino and Hotel Maryland is in full swing from now through Thursday, Aug. 27. During that time, participating restaurants have three-course prix fixe menus available – including options at its new Vietnamese restaurant, Truong Tien.
Coffee Fest at Union Collective
On Saturday, Union Collective is amping up for an all-day coffee festival. The day includes a latte art throwdown, roasting demos at Vent, cold brew and signature beverage competitions, and coffee in everything from beer to ice cream.
Spritz & Salumi
On Sunday, Aug. 23, Cinghiale heralds the end of summer with its annual Spritz & Salumi party. The afternoon event brings coastal Italian vibes, with music, bites, and lots of spritzes.
Sally O’s turns six
Sally O’s celebrates its sixth anniversary this week and is throwing an all-you-can-eat crab feast for the occasion. The feast, which is on Tuesday, Aug. 25, includes crabs, shrimp, corn, and more, plus drink specials and buckets of Bohs to keep you hydrated.
La Tomatina at Bar Dali
On Wednesday, Aug. 26, Bar Dali is all about tomato season. The Mount Vernon bar is offering up a special menu for the evening, including an unlimited gazpacho bar and tomato cocktails.
Ekiben Night Market
Ekiben’s uber-popular Night Market returns next weekend, Aug. 29-30. The event will take over the 1500 block of Thames St. in Fells Point and, as in years past, will feature tons of amazing food from Baltimore and beyond. Tickets are available now and are likely to sell out, so snag them while they’re available.
Planning for the future
