This week starts with oysters and wine and ends with Flower Mart – it’s a perfect springtime celebration of food in Baltimore. Here’s a look at what’s coming up:
Openings & announcements
Roggenart Bakery, Bistro and Café has opened a new location in Mt. Vernon. The café, which is one of several in the Baltimore area, is located in City House Charles on N. Charles St.
Kechy Pizza Co. has opened on Redwood St. downtown.
Hampden will be a little brighter around this time next year, when the Lefenfeld family, the owners of La Cuchara, open their new spot in the large corner space that formerly housed Five & Dime Ale House.
Tacos ‘n’ Taps
Saturday, the Maryland State Fairgrounds will get spicy during Tacos ‘n’ Taps, a fun afternoon event featuring live music, tons of tacos and tastings of over 60 beers, mezcals and tequilas.
Shucking around town
The Local Oyster’s brick-and-mortar spots closed earlier this year – but the company is alive and well and popping up around town at private events and all different types of venues.
This Saturday, the crew will be at Ministry of Brewing for an afternoon of oysters and brews. Soul Smoked BBQ will also be on hand and there will be live music, too.
Highlandtown Wine Festival
On Sunday, the annual Highlandtown Wine Festival returns for an afternoon full of homemade wines and great food. The festival, now in its 18th year, takes place at the corner of Conkling and Claremont and features live music, arts and crafts, food from DiPasquale’s and homemade wine from multiple makers.
Aperol at Perennial
During Sunday brunch, the Perennial patio will be blooming during a fun Aperol Garden Party. Tickets to the event include two Aperol cocktails plus snacks created especially to pair with the warm weather drinks.
Mari Luna turns 20
Also on Sunday afternoon, Mari Luna Mexican Grill will celebrate its 20th birthday with a big party featuring food and music. The Pikesville restaurant caused a splashed when it opened 20 years ago and has earned its spot as a community go-to.
Oysterfest at Manor Tavern
Sunday afternoon is also for the oyster-lovers. Starting at 2 p.m., The Manor Tavern hosts its annual Oysterfest, benefiting The Oyster Recovery Partnership. The party includes live music, an open bar and tons of oysters (as well as other food).
Sunday dinner cooking at Cosima
Also on Sunday, Cosima hosts one of its famous cooking classes with Chef Donna Crivello. This week’s installment focuses on ‘Nonna’s Sunday dinner’ – so you’ll come away with an understanding of how to make classic meatballs in tomato sauce, among other things – and you’ll get to enjoy the food prepared during class.
Flower Mart
It’s lemon stick season! Flower Mart begins this Friday, May 3. The annual Mt. Vernon market features 14 food vendors, including a wide array of cuisines, along with tons of vendors and more.
